This is quite an unusual problem, but if it happens to you, it's a pain in the ass! Indexing Options Second Step: Once the Indexing Options box opens, click Troubleshoot Search and Indexing, located at the bottom of the window. i couldnt find a better solution on the net compared to urs bullseye! Follow the instructions given further down to find the Windows Search service in the Control Panel and START it up again.
